Staff Software Engineer

Takeoff Technologies, a Massachusetts-based tech company, is the creator of the world’s first automated micro-fulfillment center (MFCs) that transforms the way people access groceries. Our solution provides retailers with the most cost-efficient way to fulfill their online grocery orders, using automated, hyperlocal micro-fulfillment centers.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer who can take on the challenge of building a world class solution delivering orders by orchestrating automation within micro-fulfillment centers. You will have the chance to explore and understand in-depth retail, grocery, and logistic businesses coupled with a cutting-edge tech stack as well as build skills across the entire software development lifecycle and work with motivated, smart, efficient, and committed people.

This is a hybrid role where some time will be spent in our Pune office and some time spent working remotely. The expectation is for this person to be in the office 2-3 days a week.

A day in the life of a Staff Software Engineer will include:

  • Build a team and cultivate innovation by driving cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.
  • Enable and facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in technical and functional areas
  • Establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships across the organization
  • Mentor and train other team members. Review the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to promote growth and improve quality and engineering practices.
  • Lead architecting new systems/technologies/processes to stay current and move the organizational stack to latest track
  • Gain good understanding of the business domain and gauge impact of the choices made to translate organizations OKR into actionable work items and drive them
  • Work with the leadership to carve out multi-quarter roadmap for the domain/guild/product
  • Take ownership and pave out the path for highly complex/unknown areas
  • Make significant contributions to the company/ industry and demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skill in the field/domain
  • Engage with cross-organizational teams such as Product Management, Integrations, Services, Support and Operations, to ensure success of overall software development, implementation and deployment.
  • Participate in on-call duties (as needed)
  • Provide positive, constructive and actionable feedback, and clear direction in communications (verbal, e-mail, or other written artifacts)

Desired skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in building large scale business applications
  • Should have a strong track record of growing and influencing others and working with all levels of senior leadership
  • Demonstrated proficiency in understanding and delivering highly performant enterprise grade applications
  • Should have solid experience in architecting products and solutions using one of the public cloud platforms GCP(preferred), AWS, Azure.
  • Experienced engineer with interpreting and predicting outcomes of business and technology decisions and tuning the execution.
  • Experience with designing for an enterprise grade multi-tenant system
  • Should have experience with containers and container management platforms (preferably Kubernetes), highly available systems, infrastructure as code patterns and canary deployment approaches.
  • Experience with refactoring and modularizing legacy applications
  • Experience designing solutions with heterogeneous technology stacks
  • Should have good communication skills and experience working with cross geo-teams and mentoring teams
  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer science or equivalent.
